Newly Diagnosed?

Learning more about HIE can help you to advocate for your baby and make informed decisions. There is no one cause of this condition, and it is not your fault if your baby is born with HIE.

Understanding HIE

Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a devastating brain injury that occurs when a baby does not receive enough oxygen and blood flow to their brain. HIE can result in serious, lifelong consequences, including medical conditions such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy, developmental delays, feeding difficulties, vision and hearing impairments, and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

We have created Family Resource Boxes to provide the information we wish we would have had at the time. Materials in the box empower families in their role as the most important members of their baby’s care team.

For HIE Warriors & Their Families

Many babies recover from HIE without complications. Some babies recover but may experience long-term health and developmental issues. The HIE community is working to build more resources for families affected by this condition.
