Turning hope into action through research, education, and advocacy
Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a devastating brain injury that changes the lives of millions each year.

Approximately 2 to 3 babies are diagnosed with HIE every day
HIE incidents only take seconds to change a lifetime—yet with awareness and action, they can often be prevented. That’s why the Macie Jo Foundation exists: to shine a light on preventable harm, empower families and clinicians with knowledge, and drive lasting change so that no child’s future is lost to HIE.

Our mission is to create a world without HIE
By advancing research, education, and advocacy to overcome the inadequate treatment and prevention options that have devastated our community for decades, we can prevent this devastating condition.

Founded by a passionate and hurting mother, the Macie Jo Foundation is filling a vital need by bringing together clinicians and scientists worldwide to accelerate HIE research, foster collaboration, and drive scientific breakthroughs.
Turning Hope into Action
HIE occurs in approximately 1 to 6 babies across the United States. To prevent and treat HIE, we need more research to better understand how and why the disease occurs and more engagement to implement the most protective care practices.
The Macie Jo Foundation gives our community the information and resources necessary to better prevent, diagnose, and treat HIE.

"As an honorary HIE aunt, I turn hope into action by fundraising for the Macie Jo Foundation and raising awareness about HIE."

Turning Action into Impact
The Macie Jo Foundation's work is driven by our intimate understanding of the devastation of HIE. Patient-families and clinician-scientists join our community because they are compelled to advance our mission. The Macie Jo Foundation represents hope amid feelings of helplessness, and connection amid feelings of isolation.

We center babies and families in everything we do. Our work focuses on the urgent need to prevent this condition. Every day, more infants are diagnosed with HIE, and too many do not make it home to their families.

The Macie Jo Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that relies on donations from individuals and foundations. We have come so far. Yet, there is so much more that needs to be done. You can help protect infants from this devastating condition. Please join us by making a donation. Every dollar donated to the Macie Jo Foundation is transformed into impactful work.
